Roger Rolls, Wozniak Upset

Roger Federer opened Wimbledon with a straight set, 7-5, 6-3, 6-2 win over Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei. Novak Djokovic struggled with his footwork early on against Julien Benneteau but won in four sets 6-7 (8-10), 7-6 (7-1), 6-2, 6-4. Robin Soderling also dropped his opening set against Gilles Muller but finished strong in a 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 6-1, 6-2. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga had a very difficult opening match against Andrey Golubev but won 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5).
Aleksandra Wozniak was upset in the first round by Francesca Schiavone 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Maria Sharapova posted a straight sets win over Viktoriya Kutuzova 7-5, 6-4. Alla Kudryavtseva wasn't able to pull off the upset of Elena Dementieva and lost 6-4, 6-1. Victoria Azarenka moved on when Severine Bremond Beltrame retired after losing the first set 6-2. Shahar Peer also posted a straight sets win over Maria Elena Camerin 6-2, 7-6 (7-3). Tamira Paszek retired against Virginie Razzano while losing 6-0, 3-1. Anna Lena Groenefeld lost to Sania Mirza 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. Sesil Karatantcheva lost to Alisa Kleybanova 6-2, 7-5.
